Inclusion Scan

What is measured?

The Inclusion Scan encourages employees to reflect on and strengthen their inclusive thinking and actions. It covers six aspects: Managing differences, Room for diversity, Room for inclusion, Diversity of your network, Openness to change, and your Inclusion experience. The Inclusion Scan was developed by Dr Saniye Çelik, Professor of Diversity and Inclusion, in collaboration with Assessio Bloom.

When to use it?

The questionnaire is used in development processes, team sessions and team building.  The Inclusion Scan programme supports building an inclusive culture. Through this programme, employees become aware of their own inclusive skills and are encouraged with tips and an action plan to enhance their inclusive thinking and behaviour. They also reflect on how they personally experience inclusion within the organisation.

Why use it?

The goal of inclusion is to create mutual understanding and respect for each other's differences, thereby establishing a fundamental sense of safety – a safety that gives all employees the courage to contribute their personal talents and to challenge conventional thinking, work procedures, ideas, and viewpoints. Diverse teams only outperform homogeneous teams when there is psychological safety.

How to use it?

The Inclusion Scan helps individual participants develop their inclusion skills and reflect on their own sense of inclusion. The scan is also highly suitable for use within teams or organisational units.

The programme provides participants with tools to get started individually. The report offers tips, and the programme includes a guide with various resources to strengthen knowledge and behaviour around inclusion. However, it is also possible to generate team reports, which can serve as input for a session organised around this theme. Additionally, the overviews of organisations (or organisational units) and teams regarding inclusion provide direction for formulating policy and designing interventions.
